The Void Design uses intersecting doorways to symbolise the opening and closing of opportunities in life.

When changes are happening, one sometimes feels life has become a void.

This is the space where all kinds of opportunities and possibilities can become evident, and presents the luxury of choice.

'The Void' was exhibited as part of
the Seldom Seen art and culture trail, in conjunction with the annual Fabulous Felt Exhibition, entitled 'Hidden Treasures - Revealed' held on Melbourne Cup Weekend in November 2009 at the Orbost Exhibition Centre.

The Fabulous Felt Group participants Marion Dawson, Vivienne Young, Gwenneth Poore and Yvonne Renfree, together with artist Bronwen Di Bari gratefully thank Andrea Lane and Gary Yellen of Red Tractor Art for their unusual idea of the Seldom-Seen project event.
It was definately a success for us at the Orbost Exhibition Centre and over 100 people attended our opening event on Sunday 1st November 2009.

The Orbost Millenium Singers added a great atmosphere to the day and people invested a great interest in the perspex void designed by Bronwen Di Bari and the felted silk shroud designed by the Fabulous Felters.

Jose Jakobi (mentor for the Orbost project) collaborated the enclosed installation space to perfection with her many skills and ideas.

Neil Smith and Andrea Court representing the East Gippsland Shire supported the project in a unifying way thankyou.
This support for the Arts is rare and we are most priveleged.

We are looking forward to seeing the filming and photography taken to document the event.

The Tic Tok Film Festival held later in the day at the Orbost Exhibition Centre included a number of locally produced short films, including some from the Orbost Secondary College students.
The production and viewing of emerging film makers is encouraging and interesting.

We think this whole event has developed a substantial serious interest in the arts component of Far East Gippsland.

This entry is part of the Deakin EAD102 assessment 7 requirement; Contributing to Online Resources, which is part of her studies. The following notes are taken from an essay she has written for her course about the 'Liberal Individual'. It has a reference to choices, which is one of the ideas developed in the Void sculpture.

'In modern times individuals can manipulate the social and economic systems to their own advantage, thus exercising their individual choice of expression.

(Howitz,1994, p.129) "Once the political process begins to do more than ensure equality of opportunity and attempts to legislate outcomes, various organised groups will try to claim their piece of the pie by presenting themselves as victims of some sort of inequality. Both the fiscal and social morass of contemporary democracies can be fruitfully understood as results of this philosophical shift."'
